Antique Art Nouveau Secessionist Vase. WMF Ostrich Stamp. Silver Plate “O” Mark. Twin-Handled. Hollow Ware.
A beautiful Art Nouveau posey vase by German maker WMF, circa 1900.
The vase is marked with the Ostrich stamp. This was the first WMF mark introduced in 1880 and used on hollow-ware through to 1925.
The letter “G”the ostrich stands for “Geislengen” which refers to Geislingen an der Steige, the German town where Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) was founded in 1853.
The item is also stamped with the letter “O” which signifies silver plate and the deposit is 50% thicker than the normal coating.
The piece was designed as a vases, originally with a glass insert for a floral stem display.
The glass inserts are missing but the piece can still be displayed as fine examples of Secessionist art.
